Introducing ... Currents

Welcome to Currents — a brand-new newsletter series from New Internationalist.
What is Currents?
Currents is an extension of the upfront news section in our bi-monthly print magazine, made up of short dispatches and under-reported stories, set often (but not exclusively) in the Global South. We work with journalists from around the world to report on upcoming elections, workers’ struggles, new technology, human-interest stories, social movements, activist campaigns, arts and culture, conflicts and more. We tell the stories that the mainstream media sidesteps and offer a platform for the people at the heart of those stories.
What makes Currents different from other newsletters?
Our journalism is more than just storytelling. New Internationalist is part of a global movement, forging ties and framing the arguments for genuine change. We believe that equality improves life in every way, and that when people come together to confront injustice – be it social, environmental or economic – wonderful things can happen.
Currents+ members receive exclusive invitations to our monthly Currents News Clubs. These virtual gatherings will give you the opportunity to meet fellow readers as well as our freelance writers and editorial team to discuss our coverage and explore ways to get involved with the issues that matter most to you. News Clubs will be held online, once a month. Existing print and/or digital subscribers to New Internationalist magazine can activate their free access to Currents+ by visiting their My Account page on our main website.
We're thrilled to share this new offering with you and we hope you find it invaluable. Please get in touch to share your thoughts and, if you're a contributor, feel free to pitch us a story.
Thanks for reading!
