About Currents

What is Currents?

Currents is a newsletter from New Internationalist offering short dispatches and under-reported stories, set mostly in the Global South. Sent straight to your inbox twice weekly, Currents brings you more of our original journalism, offering fresh takes on global stories, workers’ struggles, new technology, upcoming elections and social movements. We tell the stories that the mainstream media sidesteps and offer a platform for the people at the heart of those stories.

What makes Currents different from other newsletters?

Our journalism is more than just storytelling. New Internationalist is part of a global movement, forging ties and framing the arguments for genuine change. We believe that equality improves life in every way, and that when people come together to confront injustice – be it social, environmental or economic – wonderful things can happen. That's why each edition of Currents includes an Action and Info section with global events, actions and activities to connect you with information about how to get involved with the progressive issues that matter most to you.

We're thrilled to share this new offering with you and we hope you find it invaluable. Please get in touch to share your thoughts and, if you're a contributor, feel free to pitch us a story. Currents is included as part of a print and/or digital subscription to New Internationalist. Check your email for your activation link.
